17 Goals to Transform Our World Before 2030
The UN has, together with 193 countries, agreed to 17 bold and ambitious development goals which set out to tackle a wide range of issues, from gender inequality to climate change by 2030. The unifying thread throughout the 17 goals and their 169 targets is the commitment to ending poverty: “Eradicating poverty in all its forms and dimensions, including extreme poverty, is the greatest global challenge and an indispensable requirement for sustainable development,” notes the agenda’s preamble. We see UN’s 17 (SDG) Sustainable Development Goals as a great opportunity to kickstart efforts to change the world for better, but these ambitious goals also means that we have a big, bold agenda before us. Now we must work to make it real, and the task at hand is a significant one and it is the responsibility of making it work lies collectively, amongst the UN itself, the private sector, non-profit organisations like our own and civil society.
We view the Sustainable Development Goals as as a joined commitment across sectors, institutions, gender and status, if they are to be achieved. As such, Jengo’s focus is to use the Sustainable Development Goals as a platform through which we bring people together to address these goals - one community at a time, starting in Tanzania where our focus until today has been to support communities to adapt to climate change through capacity building and technology.
Our ambition is to expand our efforts across borders to other nations of the world - supporting rural areas to reach a point where as many of the SDGs can be marked as achieved.
